Frequently Asked Questions

Who can borrow from the Connectivity Library?

Connectivity Library devices and materials are for borrowing by Adult cardholders in good standing, 19 years of age or older, who have had library memberships for at least six months.

For more information on borrowing eligibility, please see the Connectivity Library Borrowing Guidelines.

Borrowers will need to read and sign the Connectivity Library Borrowing Agreement.

When can I pick up equipment?

Please allow three business days for your hold request to be processed. All borrowing is subject to availability. Please check with staff if you need equipment for a specific time period.

Once we check whether you are eligible to borrow, we will contact you to place the item on hold or to let you know when the equipment will be ready for pickup.

How many devices can I borrow?

Generally, each household is limited to borrowing one device at a time. An exception is made when iPads, robotics and robotics accessories are borrowed together, for example, an iPad, a Dash robot and a Dash accessories kit are borrowed at the same time.

Can I get help with equipment?

Yes, that’s what we’re here for! For most robotics and coding equipment, first time borrowers are asked to attend a short orientation session, which can be arranged to fit your schedule. If you will be attending a library program that uses the equipment, you don’t need to attend an orientation.

We can guide you toward training videos, books and websites that will help you make the most of the equipment.

For more in-depth support, you may be able to use our CLICK one-on-one computer literacy program when it’s in session. With CLICK, you can book an appointment for a 50-minute session with an instructor who can tailor your session to what you’d like to learn.

If problems arise while you’re borrowing equipment, please contact the library at 250-785-3731.

What is the Dash robot?

Ready to play out of the box, Wonder Workshop’s Dash is a real robot that makes learning to code fun for kids (and adults too)! Drive or make Dash dance, sequence events, and build knowledge of coding concepts with design challenges. Dash works with 5 free mobile apps for your Apple or Android device.

If you don’t have your own device, you can borrow an iPad pre-loaded with Dash apps. You can also borrow a variety of accessory kits to use with your Dash robot, including a real xylophone you can program Dash to play, a Gripper Building Kit that transforms your Dash into a lifting, carrying bot, and an Accessory Pack with bulldozer and tow hook.

Dash is great for kids age 6+ with adult supervision, with activities for young to advanced users. They can be checked out for a two-week loan with no renewals.

In addition to our iPad kits and robotics and coding equipment, these are available to eligible borrowers:

  • Apple and Android chargers for in-library use
